Baptism is about being re-born, being filled with the mystery of God's
life. It's about receiving the living water which " will become a spring
of water within, welling up for eternal life." (John 4:14)
It is not only water that is poured over us in generous cleansing
streams (Titus 3:5&6) but the Holy Spirit. We are re-born in the Spirit.
The light and love that is the Spirit, pours into us, fanning and swelling the
flame within us into a new life.
This coming of the Holy Spirit in light is symbolised by the lighted candle
handed to each newly baptised person. In this banner the golden light of love
and flame is flowing right into the heart of the one being baptised, there to
burn and grow.
