Catherine of Alexandria, Martyr.
Feast Day: 25th November.
A fourth century martyr she was an educated and eloquent debater. At
just eighteen years of age, she is said to have defended the Christian faith
and persuaded many learned philosophers who tried to dissuade her, to become
Christians themselves. Traditionally she is pictured with the wheel on which
she was to be executed. Legend tells that despite the wheel being destroyed by
her touch she was martyred anyway.
