Francis of (de) Sales, Bishop (of Geneva) & Doctor of the
Church. 1567 - 1622.
Feast Day: 24th January.
He wrote popular spiritual works including The Introduction to the
Devout Life. Together with St. Jane Frances de Chantal he founded the
Order of the Visitation. St. Francis has inspired other institutes and
orders to be formed including The Salesians (the Society of St. Francis de
Sales) founded by Saint Don Bosco in 1873.
In 1923 Pope Pius XI declared him to be the patron saint of writers and
journalists.
