Teresa, Doctor of the Church. Carmelite
contemplative and mystic.
Feast Day 15th October.
She reformed the Carmelite order together with
St. John of the Cross and St. Peter Alcantara. She founded seventeen reformed
Carmelite houses. Known for her practical approach and indomitable spirit in
the face of opposition and personal trials. She also recorded her mystical
spiritual life in works including The Interior Castle and The
Way of Perfection which are renowned for the depth of their doctrine
and theology, which is why she is accorded the title Doctor of the
Church.
March 28th 2015 marks the 500th anniversary of her birth
