Estelle White, hymn writer and woman of surprises.
In a rare interview Estelle White (1925-2011) talks about her varied life and work, approximately 25 minutes.
In a lively, humerous way she describes her war years playing the saxaphone in the British Army band; her years as a physiotherapist before she entered a religious order, where she wrote and had her hymns published for the first time. She continued to publish after she left the order.
Hear seven of her hymns during the conversation with Fr. John Skivington on Tyneside. She and the singers and musicians chose them together. They are heard here with permission of the copyright holders.
1. There is a World.
2. I saw the grass, I saw the trees.
3. Moses you're the man.
4. Lonely hills, tarn and fell.
5. I give my hands to do your work.
6. Come to the North.
7. I love the warmth of the sun.
