Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh - Banner
Artwork by Sr Mary Stephen CRSS
This humble human family gaze after the Wise Men in awe, trying to absorb something of the meaning. What will this child turn out to be?
As the Magi depart they leave behind a mystery as great as the strangeness of their arrival. They came in search of a King and found a poor family and a baby.
They had brought him gold for his kingship. They were aware that some power far greater than any human power had led them here, so they brought him frankincense to honour his Godhead. Some divine inspiration made them aware that this kind of kingship would lead through pain and suffering, so they brought him myrrh for his burial.
Somehow they understood that this baby was the answer to all their searching. They went away changed men but uncertain of what life would now bring them.
