Our Lady Queen of Heaven - Banner BAN964
Artwork by the Benedictine Sisters of Turvey Abbey
Feast days:
Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary 22nd
August.
Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary 15th August.
Queen of Heaven is a privilege bestowed on
Mary as a direct consequence of her role as the Mother of God (Theotokos:
as defined at the Council of Ephesus A.D. 431). The design incorporates the symbols mentioned by Saint John in the Book
of the Apocalypse (Revelation) which is read at Mass on the Solemnity of the
Assumption of Mary:
. . . a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman
clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of
twelve stars; she was with child. . . Apoc 12:1-2
Regina Caeli anthem for Eastertide:
Queen of Heaven, rejoice,
alleluia.
For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia.
Has risen, as he said, alleluia.
Pray for us to God, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.
