Traditional Christmas Carols, Seasonal Melodies and Sacred Arias Round Out Beautiful Collection
Since the release of his debut album Voice from Assisi in 2012, Friar Alessandro
has captured the hearts of people around the world with his beautiful
voice and enormous warmth. His new album is now set to fill those same
hearts and many, many more with the purest of joy.
Voice of Joy is a collection of traditional Christmas
carols, seasonal melodies and sacred arias, recorded in two very
different locations: the United Kingdom and Bethlehem, the latter in the heart of the Holy Land.
When recording his first album, Alessandro had not even set foot on a
plane before, but since then he has been on over 18 flights, spreading
his music and mission throughout Europe. Bethlehem was by far his
biggest journey yet and his first visit to the Holy Land, where he
recorded two of the tracks for Voice of Joy. Recording in Bethlehem was an overwhelmingly positive experience for the Friar, and one which he found extremely emotional.
“I’m very excited, because it’s the first time for me to stay here in
the Holy Land and to discover the holy places of Jesus… where Jesus was
born. I’m very moved inside.”
With the Franciscan Friars acting as guardians for many of
Bethlehem’s holiest of sites, Alessandro was granted exclusive access to
visit the places pilgrims of all religions travel thousands of miles to
see. Alessandro visited the Shepherd’s Fields, where the Angel first appeared to the Shepherds to tell them of the birth of Jesus, and St Catherine’s Church, from which midnight mass is broadcast to the world. Alessandro was even allowed a private visit to the Grotto of the Nativity, where he performed a special rendition of Adeste Fideles
(Oh Come Let Us Adore Him) in honour of the birthplace of baby Jesus.
He could not believe he was there – it was magical, and the magic is
captured in this new album.
Two of the tracks feature the Official Chorus of the Metropolitan Cathedral,
Buenos Aires ‘Coro Regina Coeli’. They were the official choir to the
Archbishop there – now Pope Francis. They perform with Alessandro on Alto E Glorioso Dio, the lyrics of which come from the touching prayers of St. Francis of Assisi.
Friar Alessandro’s “Voice of Joy” is an album of beautiful
music, from a wonderful man, and a celebration of Christmas – an album
of joy, from his heart to yours.
