Dimensions: A3 29.7 cms x 42 cms (11 3/4" x 16 1/2").
Augustine of Canterbury, Bishop. Sent by the pope, St. Gregory the
Great, in 597 to evangelise the Anglo-Saxons in England. Called the
'Apostle of England'. He built a cathedral and monastery at Canterbury
and also established sees at Rochester and London. Feast Day 27th May.
The original artwork by the Benedictine Sisters of Turvey Abbey also
shows a Canterbury Cross styled on a Saxon brooch design synonymous with
Canterbury. It is also used to symbolise the Anglican Communion.
