Saint Brigid, Abbess, Secondary Patron of Ireland (with Patrick and Columba). Born c. 451 or 452 died 1st February 525.
Alternative names Bride, Brid, Brigit, Bridget sometimes referred to as 'the Mary of the Gael'. Feast Day 1st February.
She erected the 'Church of the Oak' (Cill-Dara now Kildare) convent
under a large Oak tree. It became a site of spirituality, learning and
art with a school famous throughout Europe.
Brigid is pictured holding a bible under the
shade of the famous Oak Tree, a flame beside her indicates the many
instances of fire associated with her life.
