Feast Day 27th September.
Born in France in 1581 he was ordained at only
twenty years of age. He dedicated his life to evangelising the poor and
to alleviating the suffering of the sick and the destitute. He founded
the Congregation of Priests of the Mission and, in collaboration with
St. Louise de Marillac, he established the Daughters of Charity.
In 1833 The Society of St. Vincent de
Paul was established under his patronage, it is a lay society which
seeks in justice and charity to help those suffering poverty in whatever
form.
