St. Veronica - Banner BAN991
Artwork by the Benedictine Sisters of Turvey Abbey
Saint Veronica.
Feast day 12th July.
Honoured in Christian
tradition as a pious woman of Jerusalem who was moved to pity at the
crucifixion and wiped Jesus' face with her veil as he carried his cross to
Golgotha. Tradition holds that the image of his face was imprinted on her veil;
the name derives from the latin, vera icon or true
image.
This tradition is commemorated in the 6th
Station of the Cross: Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus.
