Usually identified as being the Apostle Nathanael recognised by Jesus as
the friend of St. Philip whom he had seen sitting under a fig tree (John
1:48-51).
Traditionally credited as spreading the Gospel to Arabia, India and
Armenia where he was martyred.
The original artwork by the Benedictine Sisters of Turvey Abbey shows
him sitting under a fig tree.
