St. Charles Borromeo - Banner BAN740
Artwork by the Benedictine Sisters of Turvey Abbey
Charles Borromeo, Bishop.
Feast Day 4th November.
A man of learning and intellect, as Bishop of
Milan he was associated with the reform of the Catholic Church during the
Council of Trent. He worked behind the scenes to make sure that the Council and
its reforms were brought to fruition. He also set in motion local reforms for
the bishops and clergy under his jurisdiction, to set a good example for the
people in their care. During the plague he stayed to feed and minister to
the sick and dying when civil authorities had fled.
