Margaret Clitherow, Martyr.
Her Feastday is shared with Saints Anne Line and Margaret Ward, is 30th
August.
Feast of Forty Martyrs of England and Wales: 4th May.
She was a native of York (England) and a convert to Catholicism. She was
married to John, a butcher, and they had three children. John was supportive of
her Catholicism although he remained a Protestant. She was arrested and
executed on Good Friday 1586 for harbouring Catholic priests.
She is one of three female martyrs and saints of the English reformation
and she is celebrated as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
